Pipers Farm Christmas FAQ’s - Making your Christmas planning as easy as possible

With over 25 years experience producing top quality meat, we have heard it all! We have put together some of our most frequently asked questions regarding Christmas orders, our deadline for delivery, storage instructions and even some cooking tips.

Choosing your products

What size Turkey should I order?

We recommend 2 portions per kg or 1 portion per pound.

I’m feeding 20+ people, will my Turkey fit in the oven?

The Boned and Stuffed Turkey should fit in a conventional oven. We need to know oven dimensions for any birds over 10kg.

Can I order a Turkey crown?

Yes, just call us for a quote.

Do you do Turkey legs?

Yes, of course, please call us for a quote.

Can you make me a bird in a bird, in a bird?

Yes. Of course, we'd need to know which birds you would like to give you a bespoke quote. We'll need plenty of notice.

Can I have my Christmas Turkey/Goose/Duck frozen?

Yes, of course, just pop a note in the comments box at checkout when placing your order online.

Do you do Capons?

Yes, we do large Chickens or Cockerels, approximately 3kg+. We do not castrate or inject hormones, like with the traditional French Capon. We simply grow our birds longer and slower so they reach a larger size.

Can you make me something bespoke?

Probably yes, as long as we have enough notice. Give us a call and tell us what you are looking for.

We can cater for all allergies, please contact us and tell us your requirements.

Can you make gluten/pork/dairy/nut-free stuffing?

Yes, absolutely.

  • The Sage & Onion stuffing is dairy, nut-free & gluten-free
  • The Apricot & Hazelnut and the Cranberry & Hazelnut stuffings are dairy and gluten-free.
  • Both Apricot & Hazelnut and Cranberry & Hazelnut stuffings can also be made pork-free, upon request.

Are there any chemicals or preservatives in your food?

No. Never. We only use natural, whole ingredients.

How should I store my fresh Christmas meat?

Once received remove it from it from its delivery packaging. Unwrap the pretty Pipers Farm paper.  Place your meat on a plate or a wire rack in the bottom of the fridge. You want to allow the air to circulate around the meat and make sure you keep it nice and dry.

How long can my fresh Christmas meat be kept in the fridge?

We recommend you cook your fresh Christmas meat within 4-5 days off storing it in the fridge.

How should I store everything else?

We do not put any chemicals or preservatives in any of our products, so it’s best to store them in the freezer. All sausages and stuffings should be kept in the freezer or used within 3 days of being in the fridge.

How do I store my cooked ham?

It is vacuum-packed so leave it in the fridge until you are ready to eat it. Once opened, wrap in greaseproof paper (put new greaseproof paper if it gets wet) and consume within a week.

Can I keep my frozen Simplest Turkey or Boned and stuffed meat in the fridge?

Yes, but you must consume it within 3-4 days as we do not put any preservatives in our stuffing.

When is your last delivery date?

Depending on your postcode and for most of the country, our last delivery date is 23rd December. Once you go through our online checkout, our handy calendar will display all available options.

Where do you deliver?

We deliver to the whole of the UK mainland.

We can also deliver to the Highlands, the Channel Islands and other countries in the EU like Spain and France. Please do call us for a quote.

For which areas do you provide next day delivery?

Yes, across the whole UK mainland.

Do you use a courier for delivery?

Yes, we do. We also operate our own local delivery van service for parts of the South West.

You have lots of delivery options this year, which service do you recommend?

If you are a local customer we recommend you use our local van delivery service. If you are a national customer we recommend you use our pre-12 service. Due to the time of year and volume of parcels delivered we recommend you choose the earliest delivery option, so we have plenty of time to track your order.

Do I need to track my order?

No, we do all of this for you. We want to make your Christmas as simple as possible.

Can I select a time for delivery?

Unfortunately not. You can select our pre-12 service, however, we cannot give you timed delivery slots due to the volume of deliveries at this time of year.

What if I’m not home until later?

Don’t worry, simply let us know your leave safe instructions and we will make sure your parcel is waiting for you when you return home.

Can you deliver on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day/Boxing Day?

No. We like to have a bit of time off over Christmas too! We will get everything safely to you before then.

Do your Turkeys come already cooked?

No, we don’t quite make it that simple! All our meat requires home cooking.

Should I brine my Turkey?

NO! Our Turkeys do not need brining because of the breed we selected. We have chosen to rear Free Range Bronze birds, this is a typically slow-growing breed. We grow our birds slowly only ever feeding them a natural diet, this builds a wonderful texture in the meat. We hang every bird for 12 days to develop a fantastic flavour. This means there is absolutely no need to brine. You will have plenty of flavour and succulence in the meat naturally.

How long should I cook my Turkey?

Here are some guidelines based on turkey size:

  • 4.5kg/10lb – 2 hrs
  • 5.5kg/12lb – 2 1/2 hrs
  • 6.7kg/15lb – 2 3/4 hrs
  • 7.5kg/17lb – 3 hrs
  • 9kg/20lb – 3 1/2 hrs
  • 11.5kg/25lb – 4 1/2 hrs

What if I’m stuffing my Turkey?

If you are stuffing your bird simply add the weight of the stuffing to the weight of your bird and calculate the total weight and cooking time. If you are stuffing the cavity add 1/2 an hour onto your cooking time and make sure you stuff it loosely.

Do you provide cooking instructions?

All our Whole Free Range Bronze Turkey’s, Free Range Geese and Boned and Stuffed Turkeys come with cooking instructions in the box. Most other products have cooking instructions on our website, simply click on the cooking tab to reveal how to cook. You can also check our blog for lovely recipe ideas and tips. Or failing that, call us and we can talk you through how to cook any of our meat.

I have just placed my order online but I can see the money has not come out of my bank account?

We do not take payments for orders until we have dispatched and weighed your order. We calculate the total cost of your order on exact weights because our products are completely free-range, which is why weights do vary. Once we have the total weight of your order we will charge your card. This is usually 48 hours before your order is due to be delivered.

Why have I been charged slightly more/less than my email confirmation?

Our email confirmations are only an approximate idea of cost. Until we have weighed your order we do not know the exact amount but we should never be very far out from the original price quotes.

How can I order?

You can order online, via email or over the phone.

When is your last Christmas order date?

Our last date for orders is Wednesday 16th December. Please do get your orders in as early as possible as every year we do sell out and once it’s gone, it’s gone!

Can I add or remove any items to my delivery?

Yes, up to 48 hours before your delivery date.

Can I cancel my order?

Yes, up to 48 hours before your delivery date.

Can I change my delivery date or method?

Yes, up to 48 hours before your delivery date, plus we'll need card details to charge for the delivery.

Can you tell me what I had last year?

Yes, that's easy, just give us a call or drop us an email, we'll be happy to help.
