6 of our favourite Devon restaurants to visit this summer

if you're planning a staycation to the Devon this Summer, our guide to our must-visit restaurants will get you set for fabulous feasting all through the Summer.

River Cottage HQ - Axminster

The home of the hugely popular River Cottage television series, Park Farm hosts not only an award-winning cookery school but in it's grounds one of Devon's best restaurants. With a menu that makes the most of produce from the garden and farm, Head Chef Andy and his team craft stunning unfussy dishes that you'll lap up. Keep an eye out for their family fun events throughout the Summer including the brilliant River Cottage Festival, hosted at Park Farm 25th-26th August. 

What’s on the menu from Pipers Farm: Nose to tail, the team at HQ utilise whole carcasses from our farm.

The Pig at Combe - Near Honiton

This quirky hotel makes the perfect base for a weekend getaway exploring the best of the west. With a fully stocked bar full of exotic and vibrant drinks, a stunning walled garden to wonder and views of the British countryside that will take your breath away, you'll be spoilt rotten at this East Devon hideaway. 

What’s on the menu from Pipers Farm: Tuck into a full English breakfast and you're bacon, sausages, black pudding and hogs pudding will be from the farm. You may also find some of our mouth-watering slow-grown lamb and other seasonal cuts on the 25 mile menu. 

The Rusty Pig - Ottery St Mary

The brainchild of ex-River Cottage chef and charcuterie legend Robin Rea, this friendly neighborhood hangout is guaranteed to knock your socks off. With no dinner menu you are left in the capable hands of Robin and Chef Mark to create dishes based on what's in season and abundance. Breakfast is also a must, with plates piled high of meaty treats - you can't go wrong. Rounded off by the super friendly service by Aggy and her team, if you visit one place this Summer make sure the Rusty Pig is top of your list. 

What’s on the menu from Pipers Farm: We have worked with Robin and his team for years making our range of black pudding and hogs pudding. They are our go-to guys for all things charcuterie with enviable knowledge. 

Gara Rock - Salcombe

This newly opened restaurant has one of the most breathtaking views in Devon. It's not just the incredible views that will have people flocking to the shores of Salcombe, the menu is going to be spectacular. Featuring fresh, local and seasonal ingredients, the essence of food at Gara is based on locally sourced produce, dictated by the seasons. Opening 3rd August 2018. 

What’s on the menu from Pipers Farm: You'll find a whole array of meat on the menu from Pipers Farm. From our properly free range chicken to our super sustainable grass fed beef. 

Cafe Ode - Shaldon

Freshly brewed coffee, decadent hot chocolate, indulgent warm pastries, melted buttered toast…sound like your kind of thing? Enjoy your regular morning chatter with friends, or just peacefully admire the view. Not only is Cafe Ode set in amongst a stunning seaside view, but with Chef Tim Bouget at the helm, you can be guaranteed everything you eat and drink on the premises has been sourced with a commitment to welfare, environment and community.

What’s on the menu from Pipers Farm: Gluten-free Saddleback sausages and traditionally cured bacon are a key part of the breakfast menu. At lunchtime you might find our Properly Free Range chicken atop a woodfired pizza and on the weekends tuck into Sunday lunch featuring a joint or two from the farm.

Wild Artichokes - Kingsbridge

The brainchild of noted local Chef and Author Jane Baxter, wild Artichokes is a hidden gem. With Pop Up's built on the foundation of feasting – sharing tables and sharing food with fellow diners, you can expect a seasonal set menu with a variety of dishes generous in flavour, brought to your table to pass around, just like you would at home. We run a relaxed, friendly service it's like the ultimate dinner party with your friends, with none of the hassles of cooking. 

What’s on the menu from Pipers Farm: With an ever-changing menu you can find our famous Red Ruby Picnaha, Saddleback Pig's trotters and Properly Free Range chicken making an appearance from time to time.
