April, what a contrast so far to that of March’s bitterly cold last grip of Winter. It seemed that Mother Nature was somewhat reluctant to let go of her winter shawl that has been cloaking us for many months and give over to warmer days.

Last week we had a taste of summer, of what's to come.  It was a much-needed blast of heat to warm the land and the soul. Spring is now firmly here with a wash of colour popping through in the hedgerows and in the blossom on the trees. Leaves slowly unfurling, birds chirping upbeat tunes, signing proudly of joy whilst nesting high above the ground.

Lambs and calves are being born, duckings and chicks feathers are slowly getting fluffier by the day, it’s an exciting month. April is traditionally known as the month of rain, a glorious downpouring that gets the ground alive, nurturing young shoots, unearthing worms and minibeasts for our ducks and chicks to feast upon. It is magical watching Mother Nature month by month, working alongside her, rearing livestock in tune with their surroundings at a pace that is in harmony with the seasons, farming as it should be.

With a mix of weather this month, our Pizza Bianco made using our Saddleback Bacon is deliciously easy to rustle up and is a dish that is equally spectacular eaten at the kitchen table or in the garden with the family soaking up the sun.

Our April Meat Box is full of tempting cuts to create lighter healthier meals in a flash. From sizzling duck stir-fry, to satisfying Saddleback steaks, this month we've even squeezed in a pack of our award-winning bacon to help you make the most of lazy weekend breakfast.
