Principiano Ferdinando, Barolo
A delicate and elegant natural Barolo at a great price. This vibrant Nebbiolo weaves together sensations of violets, bright red berries, forest floor, leather, sweet spices and balsamic notes. The finesse and purity of fruit are supported by silky tannins.
The crushed grapes ferment naturally with their yeasts and without added sulphur for about a month and the aging in oak barrels takes place for 2 years.
Being located on the southern fringe of the Barolo zone, the Principiano estate benefits from the biodiversity of the Alta Langhe: the wilderness that lies beyond the dense planting of Nebbiolo vineyards. This helps in maintaining a biodiverse balance in the vineyard.
This is a fabulous dinner party wine.
Enjoy with risotto or a braised beef dish.
Nose: Scents of raspberries, rose petals and dark red cherries.
Palate: Full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel leading to a lingering finish suggesting sweet spices and a hint of vanilla.
For bottles with corks, be sure to store your wine horizontally in a wine rack. Keeping wine on its side helps keep the cork moist, which is key for long-term storage, as a dried out cork can cause seepage and premature aging.
While it's not necessary to keep screw top wine bottles on their sides, horizontal storage is nevertheless an efficient way to store your wines for maximum space and easy access.

The Principiano estate is situated in Monforte d'Alba in Piemonte's Langhe Hills and was founded by Ferdinando's father, Americo, in the 1950's. Ferdinando took charge of the estate nearly 30 years ago and since 2004 has farmed biodynamically, using no chemicals in the vineyards or sulphur in the cellar. Their yields are low and quality control is ruthless.
