About

Based just two miles north of Hadrian's Wall, it is clear to see how Gilchesters Organics ethos and methodology takes inspiration and influence from the rich history and dramatic landscape which surrounds it.

Run by husband and wife team, Angrew and Sybille Wilkinson, their family philosophy is to work with nature in growing and milling their heritage grains alondside herds of rare-breed cattle to combine a balance between farming and wildlife conservation. Their rejection of modern farming production methods emphasises their commitment to the fundamental principle of growing crops and livestock within the natural constraints of the land.

Like Pipers Farm, Gilchesters rotation of crops and animals on each field is designed to ensure that the soils are never depleted of their naturally occuring minerals and nutrients. Their ongoing conservation programme is a testament to their dedication to the environment that surrounds them.

As pioneers in the re-establishment of old cereal varities into UK organic agriculture, Gilchesters pride themselves on their annual cycle that harvests the best of their nature resources. In their products, ethos and philosophy - what could be better, or simpler?
