A small family-run enterprise bringing traditional cider-making back to their 12 acre farm in mid-Devon. Smith Hayne Farm dates back to the 1300s but the orchards had been lost over the years and replanted in the 1970s. Will and Anna Chambers make 3000 bottles of whole juice, sparkling cider each year using the traditional method of keeving.
Eleven different varieties of cider apple are collected from the orchards, then milled and pressed in their cider barn. The juice is keeved and the wild yeasts produce a natural fermentation, with no added sugar, flavouring or concentrate. The cider is then aged in a combination of oak barrels and stainless steel vats, before being hand bottled.
