A superb alternative to Malbec, which has now reached ‘peak’ exposure, especially with the ‘entry level’ versions from Argentina.
An intense ruby-red color with violet undertones. Intense bouquet of ripe red fruit. Rich in fruit, lively, elegantly framed by oak spices.
A regional speciality of Eastern Italy, this wine is grown on the Adriatic, almost exactly opposite Rome after hopping over the Appenine Mountains. The vineyards are very close to the beautiful Gran Sasso National Park and lie in stunning countryside. The soil is a rare limestone, packed with marine fossils and the climate is consistently warm but not excessively hot. This allows a long, gentle ripening of the grapes so they are picked in individual bunches on a day-by-day basis as they reach full ripeness.
We adore pairing this stunning wine with venison or beef, osso bucco, making a classic Italian feast. It works beautifully with any of our grass fed beef and also pairs wonderfully with offal.
Nose: The nose is intense and expresses, mainly, fruity notes of ripe morello cherry, cherry, plum and fresh raspberry.
Palate: Very rich in fruits, lively, with in the background a discreet touch of wood
