 Oolong tea - or its literal translation 'black dragon tea' - is a wonderfully fragrant tea, created by traditionally semi-oxidising the tea under the hot sun before curling and twisting it into shape.

This oolong is the result of a collaboration between two young brothers - the Tsai brothers - with an ambition to gain organic certification for their family tea garden - and a facility and Master Baker Yu Wen (where this oolong is baked) with a visionary plan to move to carbon neutral/negative in the next two years. 

In this highly networked tea system, their work, supported by your purchase & the guarantee of regular orders and a fair price, has the potential to inspire others to take the same path. What do you do get when a tea lover and a tea sceptic fall in love, get married and then build a business together? You get Comins Tea - a wonderful tea house and shop that is committed to providing a range of loose leaf teas that are an excellent balance of quality as well as value. 

It all started on a trip to India when Michelle (tea lover) convinced Rob (tea sceptic) to take a trip up to Darjeeling to see the plantations. There, they met Mr Banarjee of the Makaibari Tea Estate, who took them on an unforgettable walk through his estate as well as a personal tasting that changed their lives forever. 

Inspired by their trip to India, they made the decision to set up on their own tea house. They sought out to directly source fine loose leaf tea from estates around the world, and wanted to make it simple for customers to find and enjoy good value, single estate loose leaf teas. They believed that the preparation and enjoyment of loose leaf tea can be an everyday activity which can fit in with and enhance our everyday lives. Trips to China, Sri Lanka and Japan saw them broadened further their horizons in tea and they were blown away but the support from other producers and experts in the tea world. 

As they moulded their vision, they were discovering a whole new world of a contemporary tea experience - one that embraced the origins of the teas and the different ways of preparing them but did so in a simple & accessible way. Michelle and Rob are keen to respect the origins of tea, preparing their single estate teas in a way that makes the most of their fantastic natural flavours with the key aim to keep it simple and not make it stuffy. Comins Tea House has found its home in Dorset where Michelle and Rob serve their wonderful range of tea, sell their expertly crafted teaware and dish up wonderful light lunches and afternoon treats.
