  • Our Pastured Chicken is reared for us by a small-scale, family farm using a fully pastured raising system which encourages natural foraging behaviour. The flock is moved daily, following the farm's herd of cattle out on the pasture. The chickens fertilise the soil with their droppings and help to minimise fly and worm burdens on the cattle by scratching around in dung pats, eating insects and larvae; this mimics a natural grassland system as large flocks of birds follow the herds of grazing ruminants.

    This incredibly active life, foraging and feasting on pasture alone results in the most flavourful, succulent chicken you will ever taste. 

    Our Pastured Chicken is a seasonal product. Rearing the flock only during the warm summer months, when there are significantly fewer physical challenges and subsequently less need to use a high-protein feed, enables these chickens to be reared within a low-input, completely soy-free system. In alignment with our mission to farm in harmony with nature, our Pastured Chickens are reared slowly, for up to 13 weeks. 

    As a result of our commitment to farming in harmony with nature, weights are not absolutely precise. 

  • 100% Properly Free Range Chicken

  • Preheat the oven to 180˚C. 

    Put the chicken in a roasting pan, rub with a little oil or butter, salt and pepper, both inside and out, and add any flavourings you're using to the cavity. 

    Free Range Chicken Cooking Time: Place into the oven, chicken cooking times vary depending on the weight: 

    • 1.5kg 1 hour 10 minutes
    • 1.75kg 1 hour 15 minutes
    • 2kg 1 hour 20 minutes
    • 2.5kg 1 hour 30 minutes

    Allow the chicken to rest for 20 minutes before carving.

  • All of our meat is delivered frozen ready to pop straight into your freezer, once defrosted these can be kept in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Where are your Pastured Chickens raised?

Our Pastured Chickens start their life at an Organic Hatchery in Tedburn St Mary in Devon. They arrive at Redwoods Farm, about 30 miles away, at 1 day old. Redwoods Farm keep the chickens to an absolute minimum of 10 weeks, before they are slaughtered on-site and then delivered direct to our Butchery unit.

What is the diet of your Pastured Chicken?

Our Pastured Chickens are fed a 100% soy-free diet, with the large majority of their feed being grown less than 10 miles away. The chicks are out on the pasture between 2-4 weeks old, depending on the weather conditions and time of year.
